Fort Madison Man Sentenced on Federal Drug and Firearms Convictions

DAVENPORT, IA - On December 6, 2012, Donald Eugene Hinton III, age 24, formerly of Fort Madison, Iowa, was sentenced to 90 months imprisonment on charges of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and marijuana and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, announced United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt. Chief United States District Court Judge James E. Gritzner also ordered that Hinton serve six years supervised release following imprisonment and pay $300 towards the Crime Victims Fund.

On January 3, 2012 and February 9, 2012, the Lee County Narcotics Task Force conducted three controlled purchases of crack cocaine from Hinton at a Fort Madison apartment building. On February 17, 2012 task force officers armed with a search warrant searched Hinton’s residence, seizing crack cocaine, marijuana, a loaded handgun, and additional evidence. Hinton entered pleas of guilty to charges of possessing crack cocaine and marijuana with intent to distribute and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Iowa. This investigation was conducted by the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Lee County Narcotics Task Force.
